Coconut water-based extender for seminal preservation in small ruminants: A meta-analysis study

Semen extenders based on egg yolk and milk have been widely used in seminal preservation. However, they present health risks due to the transmission of pathogens. Therefore, new studies emerged seeking for a diluent vegetable origin, capable guaranteeing sperm quality eliminating risk contamination. In light above, meta-analytical review was conducted determine effect coconut water as extender small ruminants’ According selection criteria, 88 independent comparisons were obtained from included meta-analysis. The weighted mean difference (WMD) between treatments with (diluents including water) control without addition evaluated using random-effects model Heterogeneity explored by meta-regression subgroup analysis, performed covariate: type water, types treatment which contrasted, preservation, preservation time animal species. overall results showed elicited positive total motility cells cooled semen (P < 0.05), while fresh cryopreserved no significant observed. addition, membrane integrity 0.05).
